Klarna launches a US carrier, will expand to the UK and Germany soon

First Trump, now Klarna – everyone seemingly wants a piece of the lucrative US carrier market. Klarna, the Buy Now Pay Later app, has just announced that it’s launching its own mobile phone plan in the US, which will be accessible directly in the Klarna app.

The $40 per month plan includes “unlimited 5G data that stays at 5G speeds”, unlimited talk and text, and no fees for activation or cancellation. You can keep your number or get a new one with instant eSIM activation, and the setup is advertised to only take minutes. Klarna is using AT&T’s network.

Klarna’s app already has 25 million users in the US, and the company hopes many of them will find its mobile phone plan enticing enough to switch to it. Klarna’s research shows that “half of Americans believe switching phone plans is too difficult”, and it thinks it’s “uniquely positioned to shake up the telecom industry by offering plans with no hidden fees, flexible contracts, and a smooth set-up experience”.

While this service is first launching in the US, Klarna promises to expand to the UK and Germany next, followed by other markets “later this year”, which is also when it will roll out premium plans in the US.
