The vivo X Fold5 will weigh less than X Fold3’s 219g as teaser video shows

The leading makers of foldables are in a race to slim down their devices – not just in terms of thickness but also in weight. vivo exec Boxiao Han shared a video of the vivo X Fold3 and the upcoming X Fold5 being weighed on a scale and the new model is clearly lighter.

How light? Well, the X Fold3 is 219g, but no official number was given for the new model – so all we can say with certainty is that the vivo X Fold5 will be less than that.

According to leaked specs, the X Fold5 will measure 4.3mm when opened and 9.33mm when closed. The X Fold3 is 4.7mm and 10.2mm, respectively. There are already devices that are thinner than that, e.g. the Oppo Find N5 is 4.2mm/8.9mm, but it weighs 229g. IceUniverse claims that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 will measure 4.2mm/8.9mm. So, it will be thinner than the vivo, but how much will it weigh? That’s TBD at the moment.

Anyway, back to the leaked specs – the vivo X Fold5 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, apparently, the same chip as on the Fold3 Pro. It will be paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB storage. The phone will have a triple 50MP camera on the back, including a 3x telephoto, and two 32MP selfies (one on each screen).

We took some screenshots of the video (above) and you can see that the vivo X Fold5 is indeed thinner than the X Fold3. However, the phone is shown with its main screen up, which doesn’t reveal much detail. That screen will be an 8.03” 120Hz “2K+” panel, while the cover display will be a 6.53” 120Hz LTPO OLED. The battery is said to have 6,000mAh capacity, 90W wired and 30W wireless charging.

This hasn’t been confirmed officially yet, but the vivo X Fold5 (alongside the X200 FE) are expected to be unveiled on July 10, just over a month from now.
